Tagline: A mind bending vision of reality from the director of Watchmen & 300.

Born from the creative vision of filmmaker Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300), this epic action fantasy launches from the vivid imagination of a young girl whose dream world provides the ultimate escape from her darker reality. Locked away against her will, Babydoll (Emily Browning) has not lost her will to survive. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four fellow captives - outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish) - to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorki (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm).

Netflix Review voted most helpful • Sucker Punch is one of those unique movies that will have a different affect on each individual. Some people will consider it one of the best sci-fi films ever. Many will be very confused and won't get it. Of those, likely half will like it anyway because of the incredibly good CGI and directing. The other half will hate it because it wasn't what they expected going in. Ignore the haters here; some people just have to rant. This isn't a girlie flick. It's not a constant action romp. This movie requires a certain level of cinematic savvy from the viewer. It takes you places most people feel very uncomfortable going. Some claim it's nothing like the advertisements; I have no idea what they're talking about. Sucker Punch delivers everything promised and quite a bit more. Some are wanting a feel-good action flick-- and this is anything but. The poster warns us: BE UNPREPARED. They mean it. Don't go in with pre-conceived notions. Just wipe your mind, sit back, and go along for the ride. This movie is definitely not for kids; parents should be VERY conscious of the "13" in PG-13... and then some. There is no nudity, gore or obscenity. Parents beware though: a couple of storyline-essential non-graphic attempted rape scenes; life is not always pretty or fair. The effects are over-the-top incredible. The makeup and clothing is intentionally stylized. The choreography (with limited exceptions) is great-- almost cliche in some places as it takes generously from existing genre too numerous to mention (mix steampunk, anime, noir, goth, sci fi, fantasy, and a whole bunch else into one very palatable face feast). This is some of the best CGI I have ever seen. Don't expect to come out of this unscathed. This movie is a mind bender, the best of cerebral fiction. If you go in with the right attitude, you might find as I did, that this is a real gem of a film. Perfect? No. Durn near though.

User Comment: drmcninja17 from Washington State, United States, 13 March 2011 • I recently saw Sucker Punch at an advance screening and thoroughly enjoyed it. To be honest, I am the target demographic here. I'm a guy in his twenties who plays video games and enjoys fantasy movies and action.... but this is a decent film overall. It appeals to my "sensible adult" side that appreciates a good, well written film, with great directing, great acting, and overall good cinematography. It also appeals to my "twenty-something male" side that loves sexy ladies, guns, killer robots, dragons, samurai and swordplay. The abundant CG is stunningly beautiful and doesn't feel overdone or become visually exhausting like some movies. This movie gets me. and I know that there will be a good number of people who dislike this movie, dismissing it as juvenile, or stupid. who dislike the amount of CGI used in this movie. I don't care... I love this movie for exactly what it is... a good movie that appeals to me in every way.

Summary: A winner on several levels.

[CSW] -3- Once is enough. This is no Brazil. It also isn't sci-fi. It is a mental illness coping mechanism that comes from having to cope with the grief of two great losses and a perverted step-father's attempt to punish and inherit by arranging an illegal frontal lobotomy in a corrupt mental institution, or at least that is what we are lead to believe. Because reality is a tricky thing when the mind may not be functioning properly it is impossible to know what is real and what is simply imagined. People who have worked with the mentally ill will completely understand this film even though reality is still unknowable because everything is told strictly from the girl's perspective. The graphics and other visual effects are well done even if the over use of the muted grey color pallet tended to detract somewhat. Although I said once is enough, this film is worth watching again with other people purely from the fact that it brings up so many points worth discussing.
